I am very proud to be Headteacher at Avonwood Primary School. Avonwood opened in September 2014 and has rapidly grown from 42 children in two classes to 455 in seventeen classes. We challenge staff to deliver a knowledge rich curriculum that 'inspires wonder and intellectual curiosity'. We believe literacy is the golden key to all aspects of academic life so encourage children and their parents to nurture a love of reading. In April 2024, Avonwood was graded 'Outstanding' in all areas by Ofsted.
Building a new school was a special opportunity to rethink the key aspects of a primary education. We continue to be very proud of our status as the only United Nations Earth Charter primary school in Europe. The Earth Charter underpins our ethos with great thought given to the eight “Little Earth Charter” principles and our school motto "it starts with one".
Avonwood is housed inside a stunning purpose built school with exceptional facilities including a bespoke science laboratory, computer science suite, outdoor performance amphitheatre and extensive outdoor spaces. As a United Learning Trust school we place great emphasis on the framework for excellence which includes the best from everyone, powerful knowledge, education with character, leadership in every role and continuous improvement.
We believe our school is a very special place to grow, work and learn.
I look forward to welcoming you to Avonwood.
