Ofsted Outstanding

Digital Strategy

In 2020, during the early stages of the pandemic, United Learning acted swiftly to move to their schools to a full online virtual school provision. As part of this strategy, every child without access to a suitable device or internet was provided with a Chromebook. In class teachers were rapidly unskilled to support our ambition of ‘dissolving the screen’; including expert use of Microsoft Teams, wireless headsets / mics and cameras. This strong response to the pandemic was recognised by the DfE with a visit from the Covid Response Team. Avonwood was subsequently asked to support the DfE as an EdTech demonstrator school.

Fast forward to January 2024 and Avonwood continues to be at the forefront of technology. Our staff are all provident in issuing tablets to ‘walk and talk’ when teaching. In classrooms you will see teachers using iPads as mobile visualisers, QR codes used to provide steps to success, electronics workbooks being trialled and pre-recorded models provided on a loop. To keep at the forefront of all things technology, we are currently exploring an exciting partnership with Microsoft to become one of the of their ‘Demonstrator’ schools.
