Pupil Premium Information

If your child is eligible for 'free school meals' and you register them for this, we'll receive extra funding called 'pupil premium'.

About the Government funding

Pupil Premium Funding was introduced by the Department for Education (DfE) in 2011 as additional funding for pupils who receive Free School Meals (FSM) or who are Looked After Children (CLA).
Pupil Premium is additional school funding for under resourced children. It is paid directly to your child's school to improve the quality of their education.

Pupil premium funding from the government is given to schools to help children reach their full potential, regardless of their background. It is provided for children who:

  • Are registered for free school meals
  • Have been registered for free school meals at ay point in the past six years
  • Are, or have been, in care (Looked After Child - LAC)
  • Have parents in the armed forces

Avonwood's Pupil Premium Strategy

At Avonwood Primary School we firmly believe that it is our responsibility to find ‘the best in everyone’. We understand that some of our pupils face additional challenges and we look to use the Pupil Premium Funding to remove the barriers that stand in their way to ensure there is equity in what all of our pupils can and do achieve. Our intention is that all pupils, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face, make good progress and achieve high attainment across all subject areas. The focus of our pupil premium strategy is to support disadvantaged pupils to achieve that goal, including progress for those who are already high attainers. High-quality teaching is at the heart of our approach, with a focus on areas in which disadvantaged pupils require the most support. This is proven to have the greatest impact on closing the disadvantage attainment gap and at the same time will benefit the non-disadvantaged pupils in our school.
