At Avonwood Primary School we believe in a culture of inclusivity. We pride ourselves on being a strong community, ensuring that every child matters and despite your learning need or disability, you are included in every aspect of our school life. We have the highest expectations for all pupils in our school and it is our job to ensure that any barriers to learning or wider school life are removed through our high-quality teaching and learning and extensive support strategies.
Our ambition is to help develop all children into happy, healthy, well-rounded young people, who are eager to learn and take on the world. We follow the SEND code of practice (2015) and follow a graduated approach to identify and support all pupils with SEND.
Every teacher is a teacher of SEND and provides quality first teaching to all pupils. As well as this we have a SENDCo, Lucy Sloane and Deputy SENDCo, Danielle Dimambro who are both qualified in the national Award for special educational needs coordinator.

It is important to be aware of the challenges facing SEND in the local BCP (Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole Local Authority) area. In July 2021 SEND provision was found to be 'Inadequate' (Ofsted Report: Click Here) and wider Childrens Services 'Inadequate' in December 2021 (Ofsted Report: Click Here). To help address this unacceptable wider context, Mr Jackson was invited by the Director of Childrens Services to represent local primary schools on the BCP Children and Young Peoples Partnership Board and BCP SEND Improvement Board. Mr Jackson also sits on a working party with the local Dorset CCG to improve pathways to Paediatrics and CAMHS. His place on these boards represents our excellent local reputation for actively engaging in expecting the very best provision and outcomes for all children.
